One of the best ways to discover Charlevoix is through its public markets. From May to October, the stands fill with colour, fragrance and just-picked freshness. Seasonal vegetables, mushrooms, herbs, cheeses, preserves, baked goods and other local specialties come together in a generous showcase of the region’s terroir.

Throughout the season, markets such as the year-round Marché Charlevoix in Baie-Saint-Paul and La Malbaie, as well as the Marché public de La Malbaie, bring together growers, food producers and artisans from across the region. They are there to sell, of course, but also to talk about their work, their land and the products they are proud to share.

The mood is relaxed and friendly. Visitors can move from farm stand to farm stand, tasting, asking questions, and filling their bags as they go. Hikers can pick up ripe fruit before heading out on the trails. Food lovers can find regional ingredients to bring home. Others may simply gather enough bread, cheese, fruit, and local treats to turn the day into an impromptu picnic. However you like to travel, Charlevoix’s markets offer a delicious way to experience the region.
