Renowned as a sport fishing paradise, Charlevoix (located in Zone 27 East) stands out through its many lakes and rivers teeming with fish, three controlled harvesting zones (ZECs) and its outfitters, which offer plenty of opportunities to cast a line. Its waters are inhabited by brook trout, winter cod, Arctic char and caplin, and the region is proud to be one of the four places in Quebec to have rivers populated with salmon. This alone attracts fly fishers from all over the world hoping to catch Atlantic salmon from the Gouffre River or Malbaie River.

And when winter settles in, another kind of fishing experience is available to those who aren’t afraid of a little cold. Ice fishing on a frozen body of water is so cool, it’ll give even the most experienced anglers chills.

Before heading out, make sure you have a permit or entrance fees in hand. Access to fishing areas is often included with your stay at an outfitter’s lodge. Be sure to check ahead of time.
