The St. Lawrence River is divided into the river, middle and maritime estuaries. Charlevoix is mainly home to the middle estuary and its stunning seascapes graced with verdant islands and imposing lighthouses. Covering 53% of the Marine Park, this area has strong tides and is a precious refuge for hundreds of species like seals and belugas, who come here to feed, rest and reproduce.

Those who venture to the Saint-Siméon and Baie-Sainte-Catherine sector are treated to something truly spectacular. The roads that wind through the Saguenay–St. Lawrence Marine Park are dotted with great picnic and rest spots where you can pause and take in the experience from the top of one of the fjord’s mountains, down by its shores or anywhere in between. The sites that make up the Discovery Network—including four located within Charlevoix—allow visitors to observe marine mammals in their protected habitat.
